The 3 session course will be structured as follows:
Week 1 –Gelli-Plate
Gelli-plate printing allows for the exploration of mono-type and mono-print techniques and can be carried out without the need for a press! The plate itself is a flexible yet durable surface made of a thick single layer of polymer (completely vegan unlike the traditional gelatine gelli plates) and as it will be cleaned after each use, is completely reusable. This is a very playful technique which allows for lots of creativity and fun experimentation!
This session will offer attendees the opportunity to print from a gelli plate and explore composition, colour, pattern and texture. Water-based inks are used, and the possibilities of multiple colour printing will be achieved by overlaying prints.
Week 2 – Linocut
Linocut is a traditional relief print technique where the surface of a linoleum block is carved away to create marks or an image. Over the course session you will learn how to safely use lino tools to draw into the surface of your soft-cut lino plate before inking and printing your plate on one of our presses.
A distinctive quality of mark/line, linocut allows for stylised work with a graphic sensibility – think clean edges and solid flat colour.
Week 3 -Tetra Pak
Tetra Pak printing offers a wonderfully versatile introduction to Intaglio and Collagraph printing processes. Perfect for those who enjoy drawing and mark making the process offers opportunity for
Through cutting, scoring and peeling the plate you will produce some fabulous effects and both in terms of line and tone. Using recycled juice, milk and soup cartons; this creative print technique is an exciting way forward to more sustainable printing.
